SKID Tester

The interaction between the player and the field is an important factor in the assessment of the foundation. A number of characteristic values have been set as a standard by the various sports federations such as FIFA and the FIH. Two of these standardised values are the Stud Sliding Value (SSV) and the Stud Deceleration Value (SDV), together known as the linear friction. A football player needs to both accelerate from a standing start and be able to stop quickly as well. This characteristic requires an interaction between the sole of the soccer shoe and the surface. The method used to assess this characteristic is by using a Slip Resistance Tester. This tester is used to assess the surface in two ways:

  • A pointer on a special scale enables the reading of the SSV.
  • Special written GSlide software processes the g-signal from the mounted accelerometer and calculates the SDV value.

Both values can be compared with the values prescribed by the FIFA in its Quality Concept Manual. The Deltec SKID Tester has the advantage that it can be combined with the Deltec Artificial Athlete (2A), Advanced Artificial Athlete (Triple-A) and Vertical Ball Rebound Tester in one portable Data Acquisition Device (DAD).

Applications: Football (above description), Hockey, Rugby, Handball, Athletics, Basketball (only slip resistance measured with Leroux slip resistance tester, pendulum or TRRL skid tester)
Standards: EN 13036-4, EN 14904, DIN 18032-2, FIFA 07
