3D Ball Analysis Zapage
The soccer ball is the object in the centre of interest, there is a high demand to precisely examine it's behaviour. On the one hand the properties have to be measured exactly to establish and to control a standard for the equipment to offer a clear basis for the sport. On the other hand it is important for the industry that produces equipment for soccer to further develop their products. For many of these phenomena it is not sufficient to roughly measure the speed of the ball (like radar does) or to measure a bit more precisely 2-D velocities (like high-speed video does) to obtain valuable results for answering the questions.
Relevant ball effects to model with the Zapage 3D cross array measurements:
- The impact of the ball on the floor
- Shooting behaviour for different ball/shoe combination
- Trajectory of the ball in the air
Diverse studies have shown that small differences in properties of sports equipment can have a big influence on the sport. To allow registration of those relevant influences it is necessary to measure with high accuracy up to a 0.1%.
Product information
The resolution of any measured velocity component is less than 0.1% of the speed. The system consists of two boxes (master and slave). The gap for the ball to pass is 840mm x 840mm and has a depth of 200mm. We have integrated in the master box a PC to control the system and to calculate results. The system comes with software that has to be installed on the user PC. The software makes it simple to define frames of reference, to control the experiment and to save the results. The design of zapage is of general use, balls can be measured from a size of 140mm diameter.
Diverse results are recorded:
- Plain velocity data and time space information in relation to the boxes
- Velocities in relation to the laboratory as well as to the target (e.g. the floor)
- Model parameters like Coefficient of Friction (CoF) and Coefficient of restitution (CoR)
- Contact duration
- Sliding length
